The original profile of the Rogal Dorn looked a little cartoonish to me – these are adjusted to have a significantly lower profile. One tricky thing with Dorns is the sheer number of guns which this approach didn’t leave a lot of space for. I cast recessed heavy bolters in resin and added a stubby turret alongside the main gun, but we’re probably still a few barrels short of a real Dorn.
One cool thing – these are actually papercraft based on dodgy Ukranian templates, with resin-cast details and 1mm diamond studs for riveting. They are airbrushed using panel highlighting techniques from scale model painters on YouTube and weathered with a mix of acrylic (sponged on) and burnt umber oil washes.
